Definition
The stages of life of the Aryan: brahmacharya (studentship, with abstinence and obedience to the guru), grihasthya (householder, the only stage that produces wealth), vanaprastha (forest-dweller), and sannyasa (full hermitage and renunciation); today the word denotes a temple or hermitage.
