Weeping Πένθος
Definition
John Climacus defines repentance as a daily “renewal of baptism” and “reconciliation with the Lord”; its value is measured not by the amount of labor but by the degree of humility acquired, and it is sealed by the remembrance of the last day and by weeping (πένθος), i.e. heartfelt contrition rather than bodily tears.
