Rita
Definition
‘Law, order’ — the divine order of being, the all-pervading cosmos-unifying principle. It is manifested as the cosmic law the gods follow (that by which the gods are gods), as social law (varna and ashrama), as morality, and as the proper order of ritual; its violation in one sphere destroys all. Its negation is anrita (lawlessness), leading to niriti, the disintegration of the world.
