Definition
In contrast to Evagrius’s “prayer of the mind”, the Responses of Barsanuphius and John speak of prayer of the heart involving the whole person, of Scripture reading as prayer that warms the heart, of the superior’s commands as prayer, and of prayer as desiring only what is according to God’s will.
