Origens Three Hypostases
Definition
The error of overemphasizing the sameness of the Three Persons so as to deny real distinction; Marcellus of Ancyra was ‘correctly condemned’ at Constantinople in 336 for an anti-Origenist Trinitarian theology that sounded modalistic. The word homoousios itself had earlier been used in a Sabellian sense by the Libyan bishops against St. Dionysius the Great in 259 and by Paul of Samosata in 264.
